I’m pretty jazzed about this new release. The first thing I did as soon as I saw the email from the Academy (of Nutrition and Dietetics), I cracked open the new guidelines. Call me a nerd, I don’t care.
The Guidelines have been long awaited.
Considering they’re call the 2015 Dietary Guidelines, you can tell how long we’ve been waiting. These Guidelines are the basis for helping Americans get healthy, and so often, they help to guide the practice of dietitians who are working to give Americans the tools to become healthier.
The guidelines have shifted to now focus more on overall eating patterns. And for the first time in history, there is now a limit on added sugar (<10% of total Calories). And for you grammar aficionados, it is a capital “C” on Calories because it stands for kilocalories, which is much greater than a calorie. 1 kcal = 1000 calories. Nerd rant over.
Enough said, check out the guidelines! They give you the tools for fulfilling your resolutions and hopefully sticking to them.

Shrimp Fajitas. We ate out on this night as a celebration of the first day of classes. 🙂
Tuesday: Crock pot Rump Roast with Potatoes and Carrots
Crock pot Mustard Pork Chops with Roasted Potatoes and Steamed Green Beans. I used leftover beef roast on this night to make some delicious fajitas instead. 🙂
Crock pot Garlicky Chicken Thighs with Fennel Salad. We had to put down one of our cats on this day due to what we believe was lung cancer. Needless to say, we opted for some comfort food, aka the local Chinese buffet, with her former owner and our friend.

Saturday: We will be in at a health fair and home show for the day, so I’m not making any plans. 🙂
Sunday: Roasted Garlic Mushroom Risotto
My husband also made brunch on Sunday, so I have to brag about it. Mostly because this is an occurrence rarer than a steak straight off a grocery store shelf.
